Carhartt QuickDuck™ Material
New for Fall 2012, the Carhartt QuickDuck™ material offers a lightweight, durable and water repellent option for someone that is looking for a material somewhere between sandstone duck and a soft shell jacket. It’s actually 30% lighter than sandstone duck but without sacrificing Carhartt durability. This reduces fatigue when on the job, but makes sure you stay just as warm. Sandstone Duck vs. Firm Duck Material
Both, Sandstone and Duck materials, are made of 12-ounce cotton. Both materials will keep you comfortable and protected during work or every day wear. So what is the difference?
The Sandstone Duck is pre-washed, leaving the material much softer and worn-in feeling than the Firm Duck. Because it is pre-washed, it is not the best option if you need to repel water/ rain.
The Firm Duck is treated specifically to provide a water repellent -not water proof- outer shell. With this treating process, you are left with a much more rigid/ stiff feeling material that will break in over time. This material will need to be treated again if you would like it to maintain it’s water repellant property.
